What's the Heart of Titus?
Many people look at us funny when we tell them the name of our ministry. It's from Scripture, which says:
2CO 8:16 I thank God, who put into the heart of Titus the same concern I have for you. 17 For Titus not only welcomed our appeal, but he is coming to you with much enthusiasm and on his own initiative.
Freddy Beltran and his family, who have traveled from Ecuador to the U.S. at their own expense to minister to us, ,are proof of the truth implied in our ministry name, Heart of Titus. The team of 6 young men led by Matt Butschek who just came back from doing crusades in Ecuador also illustrate this truth. Pat McGuffin and Ron Bess, who are part of the team going next week to Ecuador, are also living proof of the significance of our ministry name.
Enthusiasm. Initiative. Concern. These mark those with the "heart of Titus." God put such a concernin the hearts of these men and women that they enthusiastically took the initiative and go to churches far away to bless and encourage them, and to help them with the harvest of souls God has given to them, whether in South America or in the United States.
The same concern that I have, that Pat has, that Em has... has gone into Freddy, has gone into this team, and they cannot be the same since they have something new in their hearts.
They didn't go because they learned some information in church or from a book by a famous author. They went and are going because God did something in their hearts. They are changed men. There is something in them that wasn't there before and now they can't hardly contain themselves.
Oh, sure, they can allow the devil, like in the parable of the seed and the soils, steal the word that God has planted in their hearts. They can let the world and its worries, distractions and enticements, choke the word and make it unfruitful. There's always a good reason to not go on a mission trip right now.
But these men are on a mission from God that they can't shake. They are going to fulfill all God put in their hearts to do. Their love is abounding and it is bearing fruit.
PHP 1:9 And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, 10 so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, 11 filled with the fruit of righteousnessthat comes through Jesus Christ--to the glory and praise of God.
There's a reward in this passage. The reward is that the more you love the more you will know. The more you act on the concern that God has placed in your heart, the more you go and minister the love of Jesus to others, the more you will grow in knowledge, discernment and wisdom. And as we grow in discernment and wisdom we will choose more and more correctly so that we can remain pure and blameless until Jesus comes back. The promise is that our lives will be so filled with the results of righteousness that people will give God the glory!
6 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. Matt.5:6
Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. 1Cor.8:1b. It's time to bring some balance to our lives. It is good to learn but too much learning can make you arrogant. It's time to start putting that knowledge into action, because acting out the knowledge we have is what builds up others, and us too.
The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. Gal. 5:6b
Our faith must express itself through love for our lives to count for something. I'm grateful to God for the people that are not only receiving God's love in their hearts but are acting upon it to make a difference for the good on this planet. And we believe that the same concern God put into Titus' heart so many years ago will be in your heart too. God bless you.
